William J. Simone

William “Billy” Simone, 88, from Throop died Thursday July 2nd at the Green Ridge Care Center.

Born in Newark, NJ, Billy was the son of William and Anna Simone and brother to Louis, “BoBo”. Billy graduated from Throop high school. He owned and operated the William Simone barbershop in Southside until retiring at 78 years old.

Billy loved sports, especially the Yankees and Giants. He also enjoyed a good golf game. Billy and his wife, Jean Ann, enjoyed traveling and their trip to Italy was a favorite.

Billy was a class act. Whether he was carrying bags for the ladies at St Joseph’s pool or volunteering to provide free haircuts, Billy was a true gentleman. Billy loved people and it was nothing for him to start conversations with strangers at the grocery store or Viewmont mall. He will be remembered as a kind, friendly, and caring person that will be missed by all.

Billy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Ann, Throop. He is also survived by his brother, Louis, Scranton. Surviving are a nephew and nieces: Vincent Chinetski and wife, Janet, Dunmore; Vanessa Williams and husband, Mike Golembeski, Clarks Green; Sandy Coar and husband, Mike, Dunmore. In addition, he is survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Family and friends may call Thursday July 9th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the John F Glinsky Funeral Home Inc, 445 Sanderson Street, Throop. A mass of Christian burialwill be held Friday July 10th at 9:30 am at the Saint Carlo Acutis Parish at St Anthony’s church, 215 Rebecca Street, Throop. Interment will be held at the Dunmore Cemetery immediately following mass.
