Vilma
Tasselmyer
March 24, 1928 – December 28, 2023
Vilma Tasselmyer, 95, passed away on Thursday December 28, 2023, at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Scranton, PA, surrounded by her family.
Born in Pittston, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Natalina (Bisciao) Matteucci. Vilma was a 1945 graduate of Throop High School and ICS, Scranton. She resided in Throop most of her life and was a resident of Linwood since September 2020.
Prior to her retirement, Vilma was employed by Haddon Craftsmen, Dunmore, for over 25 years. She was a former member of St. Bridget's Church, Throop and was involved in the Altar& Rosary Society and the church choir. She faithfully volunteered at their turkey dinners and homemade macaroni dinners and was frequently found in the kitchen washing pots and pans. She was a member of the Throop Community Choral Group and was also a member of the Throop Centennial Committee.
Vilma loved to travel and visited 38 states and several countries including Canada, Mexico, Spain, France and Portugal. The highlight of her life, however, was taking a trip to Italy with her sister and meeting extended family in Perugia for the first time. She was proud of her Italian heritage and spoke Italian fluently; she loved to converse with anyone who spoke the language.
Vilma was proud of her children and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her mind was sharp, she did daily crossword puzzles, and she could remember the smallest details of events and places and people from her past. Her family and friends knew Vilma to be a kind, loving and generous woman who never lost her temper, never had a bad word about anyone, and who always saw the good in everyone. She was a fabulous cook, known especially for her meatballs and sauce that she shared with family, friends, and neighbors and her Italian Wedding Soup which se donated for church functions.
Vilma was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Tasselmyer, and son-in-law Ralph Kujawski. She is survived by her son David Tasselmyer and wife Donna, West Pittston; daughter Diane Kujawski, Throop; Daughter Karen Cunningham and husband Chad, Madison Township; and her sister Josephine (LuLu) Ganz, Old Forge. She is survived by her grandchildren Kathryn Baltrinic and her husband Craig, Front Royal, VA; Corey Kujawski, Throop; Kyle Cunningham and his wife Rachel, Philadelphia; Tyler Cunningham and his wife Mariah, Jefferson Township; and great-grandchildren Clare, Felicity, Matthew, Nicholas, Sebastian, Aidan and Killian, several nieces and nephews and many cousins in Italy.
Vilma's family gratefully acknowledge the staff at Linwood, especially Kim, Rashida, Erica and Moe for their exceptional and compassionate care they provided to her for the past three and a half years and for treating her "like family". Vilma's family would also like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice, Olyphant, for their professional and attentive care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Vilma's memory to the St.Francis of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave, Scranton.
