Sam Mazzatta,76, of Throop, passed away peacefully Saturday October 26 at the Mid Valley Health Care Center, Peckville.
Born in Scranton and raised in Throop, he was the son of the late Sam and Madeline Zelinski Mazzatta.
Sam was a 1966 graduate of Throop High School. He enlisted in the US Air Force where he was a sergeant during the Vietnam Era, serving as a crew chief aboard the Boeing KC135 Stratotanker, which provided the core aerial refueling for the United States Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and allied nation aircraft. He was honorably discharged after 4 years of service.
Prior to retirement he was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot and as a Throop Police Officer. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant.
He enjoyed fishing, photography, playing his guitar and was a man of great faith. Words cannot express how much he will be missed.
Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his daughter Holly Helene Mazzatta Grimes; son Sam Mazzatta, Throop; daughter Stephenie Simmons, Louisianna; sister, Christine Janiga, Olyphant; Grandchildren, Michael Grimes, and Mark Grimes, Danielle, Anna Cait, Saxon, Louisianna, Great grandchildren, Genevieve and Lucienne Grimes.
Aunt, Jeanne Davis, Throop; niece Kerri Moore, Olyphant: nephew Joe Janiga, Jefferson Township and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday November 12 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, 200 Delaware St. Olyphant, PA. Family and friends will be received at the church starting 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment with military honors provided by VFW Post 6082, Peckville will follow at Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore, PA.
