Ronald Joseph Meka

Ronnie Meka, 86, of Throop, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, September 3rd. He was born on January 17, 1940 in his family home in Throop, where he remained his entire life.

Ronnie was quiet, warm, kind-hearted and deeply devoted to his family. Supportive and always willing to help, he was always there whenever he was needed. His gentle presence and caring nature touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Ronnie is survived by his beloved family, Linda LaBanic (Rich Budzinski) and Cathy LaBanic Decker (Ray). Linda was also Ronnie’s devoted caretaker. He was an especially important part of the lives of Linda and Cathy, as well as their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen (Mattey) Meka, and his cousin and close friend, Betty (Kuchinski) LaBanic.

Ronnie worked for many years at RCA/Thomson Electronics and Morris White Manufacturing. Outside of work, one of his greatest passions was golf. Ronnie was an avid golfer who played courses throughout the area and won numerous awards over the years, including recognition for his many holes-in-one. His favorite courses were Pine Hills and Skyline.

One of Ronnie’s most memorable golfing accomplishments came when he scored a hole-in-one while playing at Skyline Golf Club; Ronnie aced the 176-yard eighth hole using a six-iron. He also took great pride in winning the Thomson Electronics Golf Tournament with a double eagle.

Ronnie also had a lifelong love of cars and especially enjoyed his beautiful 1974 Corvette, which brought him great pride and enjoyment.

Those who knew Ronnie will remember him not only for his accomplishments and interests, but for the quiet way he cared for the people around him. He gave his love and support freely and became an important part of the lives of those closest to him.

Ronnie will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

In the words of his family, “You were so much more than family to us, you were part of our lives in ways words could never fully express. Your love, care, and presence helped shape our lives and made us who we are today. You will forever be woven into the story of our family and held within our hearts. We will carry a part of you with us for the rest of our lives.”

Friends and family may call on Thursday, September 10th at 9:30 AM with a memorial service and blessing at 10:30 AM at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, 455 Sanderson Street, Throop. Interment will follow immediately at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Price Street, Dickson City.
