Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we share the sad news that Maurice A. (Maury) Menichetti died peacefully at home with his family gathered at his bedside on October 31, 2024 after a short battle with cancer.

Maury was born on February 4, 1947 to Maurizio and Dorothy (Simonick) Menichetti.  He was a 1965 graduate of Throop High School.  After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard acquiring distinction of Sharpshooter-US Rifle Cal.30 and Expert-US Pistol.45  Maury was awarded the General Thomas J. Stewart Medal, along with the Pennsylvania Service medal.  He was very proud of his time serving and his many friends that he met during that time.  Maury was of Roman Catholic faith.  He found great solace in attending Mass and the special services throughout the year.

Maury was employed at Haddon Craftsmen for 30 years until it closed in the late 90's.  He went on to attend courses at Lackawanna Junior College and with his newly acquired computer skills he obtained a job at Tom Hesser's Chevrolet in the service area.  After a few years he took a position as a merchandiser to setup new stores in the Northeast.  All along the way, Maury developed close friendships that he cherished.  He often spoke of the gang at Haddon, the folks he was able to help at Tom Hesser's, and the numerous customers and co-workers when he was on the road.  All you needed to mention was a name and he would have a wonderful memory to share about that person.  To all who were his friends, to all who knew this wonderful man, please know how much you meant to him.

Maury was a life-long resident of Throop where as a young man he developed a true love for baseball and could be found on a baseball field with his buddies any day, any time.  He left his mark as a T-Ball, Little League, and Teener Ball coach for many years through his sons' playing careers.  He also coached basketball at the old Throop Civic Center, and served as Cub Scout Master for Throop 73 at St. John's Church.  After coaching he never missed watching a game- cheering on his sons, grandkids, and players.  In his early teens he started to caddy for golfers at every opportunity that he could and learned how to be an impressive golfer who many liked to challenge.  Maury developed into quite the bowler while working at a local bowling alley setting pins and later working as a short-order cook.  He was  Dodger Blue through and through from their days in Brooklyn to LA and cheered his team as they won their 8th World Series on the very night he died.  Maury was also an avid Penn State Football, New York Giants, and Boston Celtics.

Maury was one of the founding members of the Throop Cow Flop, and served on the Throop Centennial Committee and was a member of the Green Street Bushwackers.

Maury is survived by his wife Linda, of 13 years, after their lives were brought together and they settled into a wonderful life of love, fun, and extended families.  Maury was the extremely proud father of his sons, Maurice (MIchelle), Christopher (Connie), and Sandy (Stephanie) and grandsons Zachary and Reese; and his beloved sister Daryl who truly had a special place in his heart.  Daryl watched over Maury when he was young and made sure he had his lunch each school day, and took him everywhere with her when she was going to visit her friends.  His extended family: Curt Weiland (Samantha), Scott Weiland (Sunny), and Stephanie Ware (Rob) and grandchildren Tyler Williams, Emma and Grace Yusavage, Patrick and Hanna Ware, Scott Weiland, Aurianna, Diego, and Chase Vegas.  Maury was a true family man who would do anything he could to help you.

We, his family, would like to extend our sincere thank you to the excellent care provided to him by Dr. Rajan Mulloth, Dr. Padmaja Bojanapally, and Dr. John Prior; the doctors and nurses at GCMC, and a special thank you to Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the tremendous and constant support and guidance through his journey.
