Kathleen A. Ruby, 82 years old of Jefferson Township, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, following complications from a stroke.
Born on February 25, 1944 to Edmund and Rose Modos Kallay, Kathleen was raised in the town of Throop, PA where she fell in love with and married her husband Edward. Together they raised three boys, Kenneth, Timothy and Brian. A woman of deep Catholic faith, she was proud of her Hungarian heritage, often cooking traditional Hungarian dishes and adding paprika where she could. As her extended family will recall, she was a genuine member of the “long Hungarian goodbye club”. Kathleen loved each and every member of her immediate and extended family that stretched throughout the country and overseas, writing to them often and eagerly waiting for their return letters – she was so happy to receive letters from overseas. She was exceptionally proud of her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, always speaking of them in high regards. Likewise, she was exceptionally proud of her husband’s craftsmanship and skill having lived most of her adult life in the house he built for his family. There she would watch as her sons and grandsons happily (not really) excavated the yard by hand, digging for stones to place on the house, the fireplace, the chimneys and the stone walls throughout the yard. She was also so very proud of her son Tim who rose to become a Major in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard having overcome her fear of all things IT, purchasing a computer to communicate with him overseas.
She was an avid reader, devouring entire books in a few sittings and she was a devoted gardener as well, filling her yard tastefully with flowers, ornamental grasses and various, unique plants. She had an enduring fondness for tigers, filling her downstairs with an array of photographs, decorative plates, paintings and other tiger jungle décor. She absolutely loved playing scrabble with her family going back to her mom’s kitchen table with her mom, brother and sister. That traditional lived on with her own children and grandchildren on the dining room table of her own home – coasters were a must! (and no looking up words on your phone!) When you stopped by to visit or drop something off, the scrabble invitation and game was on.
Kathleen is survived by her sons Kenneth (Michele) and Brian, ten grandchildren: Michael, Kyle (Dana), Justin, Colin, Lilianna, Brianna, Mya, Mia, Andrew and Tim as well as nephews, nieces and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her husband Edward, her son Timothy, her siblings Rosalie, Edmund Jr. (Butch) and Richard and her daughter-in-law, Dawn (Brian).
