In Loving Memory of Karen Longo
May 7, 1964 – October 24, 2026
Karen Longo, a kind and gentle soul whose generous heart touched countless lives, passed away on October 24, 2026, after a courageous 10-year battle with a rare lung cancer. Throughout her journey, Karen faced each day with strength and determination, always striving to make the most of the time she had with the people she loved.
Karen shared 40 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Lenny. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on September 6, 2026, with a special trip to Mission Beach in San Diego, California. Determined to make the trip despite her illness, Karen was determined to enjoy every moment and make it the best time ever. Together, Karen and Lenny built a beautiful life and a loving family that will forever remain their greatest legacy.
Karen was the loving mother of Chrystal Foster and Evan Longo, and a devoted grandmother to Nicholas and Christian Foster of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Her grandchildren were among the greatest loves of her life. She treasured the many trips and special memories she shared with them and Chrystal, making the effort to be there for them even when she was not feeling well. Her love for her family never wavered. Karen also adored her beloved dog, Remi, who never left her side and whom she loved dearly.
For 20 years, Karen operated a home daycare, caring for children and helping families raise their little ones. Over the years, she formed lifelong friendships with parents and the children she cared for, many of whom remained close to her long after they had grown. Her kindness and dedication made her much more than a caregiver—she became part of their families.
Karen later built and operated Cinnabon and Carvel franchise businesses at three locations: The Mall at Steamtown in Scranton, Pennsylvania; Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, New York; and Viewmont Mall in Dickson City, Pennsylvania. Through her hard work and dedication, she built her business while forming lasting relationships with customers and employees alike. Many of her employees became close family over the years, a testament to the warmth, loyalty, and generosity she brought to everything she did.
Karen’s big heart extended throughout her community. She was always willing to help with anything at St. John Vianney Parish and was a generous supporter of the Knights of Columbus Council #12573. Whenever someone needed help, a donation, or something special for a party or occasion, Karen was ready to step in. She was always happy to share a box of Cinnabons, bringing sweetness and kindness to countless gatherings. Giving came naturally to Karen, and she never hesitated to help someone in need.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Martin Hyzinski and their favorite nurse, Judy, for their unwavering care, kindness, and support throughout the past 10 years. They also sincerely thank Dr. Kathryn Arbour and the staff of the David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Through their research and study, they gave Karen two additional precious years of life, allowing her to create more memories with the family she loved so dearly.
Karen will be remembered for her gentle spirit, courageous heart, generosity, and the countless relationships she nurtured throughout her life. She gave so much of herself to her family, friends, employees, church, and community. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the love she shared so freely.
