December 16, 1936 – July 14, 2024
Joseph M. Benson, died Sunday morning peacefully at home surrounded by his daughter and grandchildren.
Born Dec. 16, 1936, he was a lifelong resident of Throop and was the son of the late Henry and Helen Yontas Benson. He was a graduate of Throop High School and before retirement, he was a driver/operator for the Lackawanna County River Basin Sewar Authority and bartender at Runco's Catering for many years. He was also a police officer and councilman for Throop borough.
He was a member of blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthony's Church, Throop. He loved to go to Atlantic City and Mt. Airy Casino and enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jill Marie Tanana, and her husband Michael; grandchildren, Adam J. and Ryan Nosak and his wife, Dani; Nicholas Murley and wife Jen; Jason and Jessica Murley; great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sofia; a son-in-law, Adam Nosak, a sister-in-law, Rita Chorba, and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his wife Lucille A. Benson, daughter Bonnie Lynn Nosak and a son Robert "Boo" Benson.
Friends may call Friday 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home,Inc., 445 Sanderson St. Throop. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthony's Church, 215 Rebecca St. Throop. Interment; St. John's Cemetery, Throop.
