John Stedina, 93 of Throop PA passed away on November 28, 2023.
John was a lifelong resident of Throop, born in the house he lived in and until shortly before his death. He was born in 1930 to Mary Stedina. His father John died in a coal mine accident a few months before his birth.
John loved his community of Throop and was active throughout his life in many organizations. As a child he was a Boy Scout and then became a leader of Troop 73 for 10 years and served on the council for years after. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St.John's parish and then went on to become the founding President of the Throop Goodtimers. Through the Goodtimers he organized family picnics, bus trips, and donated to many Throop organizations. He loved singing and was in the community chorale group and church choir. He served as Co-chairperson of the Throop Centennial committee in 1994 which led to a VIP trip to see Penn State play in the Rose Bowl and attend the parade.
John served a cook in the army from 1951 to 1953. After arriving back home he met and married Catherine Domenick from Dunmore. They were married for 59 years until her death in 2018. He was employed as a welder at Casket Shells in Eynon, High Pressure Cleaning, and then maintenance department at Penn State Scranton from where he retired in 1991. He loved his years working at Penn State and was a well liked and respected member of the staff.
John was preceded in death by his father John, mother Mary, sisters Pauline, Agnes, Mary, and wife Catherine. He is survived by his three Children Karen Bracey, Throop; Mary Beth Patterson, Shrewsbury PA; John Stedina Jr. Dunmore; and grandchildren Andrew Patterson, Ryan (Mary) Bracey, Kelsey Patterson, Emily Stedina, Tyler Stedina and many beloved nieces and nephews,
Funeral Services will be held at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, Inc., 445 Sanderson St. Throop on Wednesday December 6 from 5:00 -7:00 p.m.with a mass of Christian Burial on Thursday Dec 7th at 9:30 A.M. At Blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthonys Church, 215 Rebecca St.Throop.
All those attending mass please go directly to church.
