Joan (Joanie) Filarsky, R.N. 91, of Throop passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 24 at Allied Services Hospice Center.  She was the widow of Robert Filarsky who passed away in May 2001.

Born in Throop in 1933, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice Bevan Burns.  She was a graduate of Throop High School and attended Mansfield State Teacher College and Marywood University.  She graduated from the Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 where she spent over thirty-five years.  She was the Manager of the Recovery Room at Community Medical Center for nineteen years.  She retired in 1995 after over forty- five year career in nursing.  She was a member of the the Throop United Methodist Church.  She loved her best pal and buddy, her dog "Benji."  She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother/great-grandmother and friend.  She loved her family very much, especially her best friend Jeffrey Hughes, who always did so much for her.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Hughes, Throop, Lisa and husband Mark Paciotti, Peckville.  Five grandchildren Frank Hughes and wife Kim, Scott Township, Jeffrey Hughes, Throop, Tara Krupovich and Husband Eric, Eynon.  Stacie Sarnoski and Husband Jonathan, Throop.  Brittany Greene and Husband Christopher, Carbondale. Eleven great grandchildren, Ayden, Zoie, Aaliyah, Dylan, Maddox, Trevor, Kason, Deacon, Tiara, Kinsley and Brayden.  She was preceded in death by a sister May Evans and a Son-in-law, Francis Hughes.

Calling hours will be Tuesday July 30 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the John F. Glinsky Funeral Home, Inc. 445 Sanderson St. Throop with services at 11 a.m. by Pastor Matthew Armstrong. Interment Dunmore Cemetery.
