Helen Grega, 98, of Dunmore passed away on June 18,2025. She was surrounded by her family in the final week during her care in home hospice.
She was born in Throop on December 13, 1926 to the Late Michael and Mary Kashmer. She attended Throop schools. She was a lifelong member of St. John's and Blessed Sacrament Parish in Throop.
Prior to raising her family, she worked as a seamstress and hostess. She married Vincent Grega, Sr in 1945. After spending a few years in NC and FL during her husband's military service, they moved back to Throop and finally settled in Dunmore raising 6 sons.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vincent Sr in 2003, her son Thomas in 2003, and Granddaughter Kristy in 2000. She was preceded in death by a sister Anna, and brothers Michael, John and George.
She is survived by her son's Joseph and wife Millie, Opelika AL, David and wife Diane Kingston, Ronald of Dunmore, Vincent Jr and wife Leslie, Brian and partner Michael Junsay, Reston VA, and daughter-in-law Mary of Dunmore. In addition, she is survived by 12 grandchildren: Alicia, Stacy, Justin, Beau, Thomas, Christopher, David, Danielle, Yekaterina, Serge, Noah, and Jonah; and 6 Great Grandchildren: Miranda, Frances, Ethan, Grayson, Audrey, Nolan, along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces/nephews.
Helen was the ultimate homemaker. Her family cherished the holiday gatherings at her home enjoying the homemade meals and desserts, especially her pierogi. She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren when they could play, dance and enjoy snacks. She kept a positive attitude, was friendly and kind to others,
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to The Kristy Grega Scholarship Fund at Marywood University, 2300 Adams Ave, Scranton, PA 18509.
In remembrance of Helen those attending services are asked to wear her favorite color pink.
