June 7, 1942 – January 25, 2024
Gerald "Jerry" Butash, 81, of Throop, passed away January 25th after a brief illness and has gone on to be with the Lord. Jerry will greatly missed for his immense heart and generosity. He was a great family man and a friend to everyone.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the Late Michael and Nellie Kervalavich Butash. Jerry was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School's class of 1960 and spent 2 years at Penn State. Jerry was also a member of the Army Reserves and National Guard for 15 years.
Professionally, Jerry was a skilled electrician whose expertise and craftsmanship were admired by all who worked with him. He spent many years working as a plant electrician at Eureka Security Printing in Jessup, PA and later at Jim Lamberti Contracting Services in Factoryville, PA. Jerry's attention to detail and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike. He also loved doing electrical work for family members and friends often hanging lights or replacing electrical switches. He was always there to lend a hand.
Jerry cherished his time spent supporting his two sons, Jeff and Brian, throughout their academic and sports careers. With his wife, Marie, they both loved to watch their sons grow into the men and fathers they are today. They never missed an opportunity to support and encourage their grandchildren in their multiple activities.
Throughout his life, he embodied unwavering devotion to his family, always placing their needs above his own. His bond with his wife, Marie was a source of strength and inspiration to all who witnessed it, a testament to enduring love and marriage of 60 years.
As a father, Jerry was a beacon of support and wisdom, guiding his sons with patience, understanding, and an unwavering belief in their potential. He led by example, instilling values of integrity, compassion, and hard work that continue to shape the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Jerry had a love for the game of golf. He took great pleasure in playing with his family and all the wonderful friends he met in his time spent on the course. He was the original founding members of the Throop Golf League which started in 1980 and spent the last 44 years as the treasurer for the league at Wemberly Hills.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Marie Moss Butash; his two sons, Jeffrey and wife, Michelle Stage Butash; Brian and wife, Tammy McCord Butash; both from South Riding ,Virginia; grandchildren, Mason, Brooke, Ava, Avery, and Logan; brother Michael Butash, North Scranton. Also preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Butash Smith and his furry companion, Baxter.
Jerry's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his legacy of love, kindness, and strength will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of sharing in his life's journey,.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday February 6, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthony's Church, 215 Rebecca St. Throop,PA.18512
Jerry will be laid to rest with his parents at St. Catherine's Cemetery in a private family ceremony.
In honor of Jerry's memory, donations can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter located in South Abington Township.
