Our father Gene J. Runco "Gino" "Poppy" passed away peacefully early Friday morning at his home in Throop , with his Loving family by his side.It is difficult to summarize a 92-year old man's life in a few words.Gino was born November 11,1929 ,In Lago Italy,son of the late Carmen and Maria Runco. Gino graduated from Throop High School class of 1946,following graduation,he served in the United States Airforce for 21 years.
He married his beautiful wife Christine McCart in 1960 who he met while stationed in Scotland in the USAF. They celebrated their 61st anniversary last year.He retired at age 62 from the Lackawanna County Medical Assistance Office as a social worker of 35 years. He was also a member of the Italian American Club of Throop for countless years and enjoyed meeting his longtime friends 3 days a week to play poker games and converse.Our dad was a selfless person and rarely complained or argued-he simply took life as it came.
His motto was "don't worry about something that hasn't happened yet". He loved life to the fullest.He was an avid fisherman,golfer and loved woodworking. There was nothing he couldn't fix. He instilled in all of us the importance of family,hard work and a sense of pride. We loved our father very much and we will miss him dearly.He lived a great fulfilling life and now he will be reunited with his mother Maria Runco,father Carmen Runco, Brother Gapser Runco and sister Gilda Mecca.Surviving in addition to his wife Christine Runco, his sister Lena Simrell, sons Carmen ( Tammy) Runco, Anthony Gene and (Patricia) Runco,Daughters MaryAnn Runco, Christine(Bruce) Biancarelli.
Grandchildren Tommy Lukasewicz, Gino Runco,Tony Runco,Patrick Runco,Dominic Runco,Mario Runco,Nino Biancarelli,Angelo Biancarelli,Gina Biancarelli,Jenna Mancuso,Bobby Intoccia,6 Great Grandchildren,many nieces and nephews
