Obituary

Elizabeth A. Butash,Throop, wife of the Late Paul J. Butash, who died in 2007, passed away at home on Friday surrounded by her loving family at the age of 94.  She and her husband , along with their son Paul operated the Butash Phamacy for more than sixty-six years.  Daughter of the late Anna Wasilisin and Andrew P. Wargo, Betty grew up in Olyphant, attending Holy Ghost school, and graduated from Olyphant High.  She worked for Bush,Lucas, and Medical Arts Pharmacies, and that is where she met her future husband Paul.  They were married on Thanksgiving Day 1950.  The  couple raised four children in their homestead in Throop, which provided the neighborhood playground for many years.  The family home was the meeting place for holidays,birthdays, and check-ins for a scoop of ice cream.

Betty was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish.  She was involved in the yearly family festival, Holy Cross Wednesday meal distribution,and was a regular at morning mass.  She was a devout Catholic, proud Demorcrat and life-time Yankee fan.  Betty and her husband Paul attended some forty opening day games together.  Her family includes her daughter Marie Gregg and fiance' Frank Scheller,Dunmore, Paul and Sharon,Jessup, John and Donna ,Throop, Joseph and Ellen, Dickson City.  Grandchildren Matthew, Pastor Michael (Karrie), A.J. and Stephen, Jenna DeAngelis (Joseph), Ali Paparelli, Diana Lance (Bryan), Bridget Marrazzo (Jason), Joseph Butash MD (Ali Linsk Butash MD).  Betty loved to say her great-grandchildren were her baseball team: Kyle,Chase,Colten Butash,Tyler and Tenley DeAngelis, Maverick Marrazzo, Anna and Bryson Lance, and Aaron Joseph Butash.

Nephews and nieces include Mike Yakacki (Patty,Amy,Alex) and John Wargo (Debbie,Rachel).   The Rochester "crew" includes Albert,Dorothy,Margy,James,Andrew and Marie.

Betty is the last of the Fern Hill and Bosak Court AP Wargo family,Al,Marie,John,and Joseph preceded her in death.
