Obituary

Daniel L. Cusick of Madison Twp., died on June 10, 2022 from complications of COPD and other health conditions at the age of 87.  Dany was loved and admired by everyone who knew him for his wisdom and vast life experiences that he had throughout his life.  A very large gap is now left in many lives.  The number of people, places and experiences that he had always captured everyone's amazement and if you knew Danny, he never ran out of endless stories of his life to share.  He was a native of McKeesport, PA graduating from McKeesport High School in 1952.  He worked for many years at the steel mills where he saved enough money to further his career.  He acquired his degrees in linguistics and ethnomusicology at Wayne State University, Detroit.  He served in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1962.  After serving, he went to New York City where he opened a studio that taught Flamenco dancing and song, this is where he met the love of his life Anna Marie of whom they had been married for 53 years.  He was also a former ballet and choreographer in the city.  With all of that behind him Danny found his lifetime career in journalism.  Throughout the years he wrote for numerous newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals nationwide and books for over half a century.  He wrote for numerous newspapers in Albany, N.Y., Detroit Michigan, Pittsburg PA, Wheeling W.VA Harrisburg, the Post-Gazette and Scranton PA.  During his career he has written numerous articles about music, religion, science, language, and the arts for various journals worldwide.  Danny also published a book under the title of Cusick Associates.  After traveling around the country he and Anna Marie (Carmona) settled in their home in Madison Twp. In 1967 until the day he retired he was staff writer for Good Times for Seniors and a featured writer and music critic for the Scranton Times-Tribune as well as other newspapers.  He was a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest, loved his friends completely and always was grateful for all he had in life.  Danny was preceded in death by his father Paul Cusick, His mother Margaret Cusick, and his wife of 53 years, the internationally lauded opera singer, a potter and a world recognized Chinese watercolor artist Ann Marie (Carmona) Cusick.  He leaves behind many who had adopted him as a family member, many friends far and wide and his companion, Loretta "Lucky" Serrenti.
