Obituary

Albert R. Muto Jr., 86, of Throop, passed away early Monday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton.  Albert was a devoted husband to his wife MaryAnn Kochis Muto, for the past 64 years.  Together they built a strong and loving family with cherished memories that will live on well beyond Albert's passing.  Albert was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.  Described by all who knew him as kind helpful and compassionate, he was first and foremost a gentleman.

Born June 26, 1937, he was the son of the late Albert and Mary Policichio Muto.  Albert was a graduate of Throop High School.  Throughout the majority of his long career, he was employed by Sears and retired as manager of the Sear's Automobile Center in Scranton.  Albert was always quick to volunteer where help was needed or to just "lend a hand."  Years of helping his grandson and his friends get to and from just about anywhere in the valley have left loving memories and gratitude in the hearts of many.  Memories of these rides, flickering porch lights, and "watch yourselves" represent only a few ways his kindness and empathy will remain with us long into the future.  Albert loved to participate in activities that involved spending time with his family.  He spent many years being a member and participating in events sponsored by the former St. Bridget's and then Blessed Sacrament Parish at St. Anthony's Church Holy Name Society.  A devout Catholic, he was a lector at Blessed Sacrament Parish.  He belonged to the former Italian American Club in Throop, the Sierra Club and was a proud member of the Herbert Clark American Legion Post 180, where he sometimes had the honor of acting as Chaplain.  Albert was previously elected to a term as director on the Mid Valley School Board.

Surviving are his wife Mary Ann of Throop, son Allan Muto and his wife Tina, Jessup, Pa, son Thomas Muto and his wife Carlene, Richboro, PA, son Robert Muto and his wife Birgit, Visalia, Ca., and daughter Patricia Muto, Olyphant, Pa; grandchildren, Erica Muto, James Fontini, Joalaina Muto, Vincent Muto and his wife Ana; great -granddaughter, Mia Muto.  With deepest sorrow, Al was preceded in death by his amazing granddaughter Giadanna Mia Muto, who died in 2022 and who will forever remain a member of this family.  Also are surviving are his sisters, Ann Marie Muto, Throop, Pa and Virginia Tokash, Peckville, Pa; along with loved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

The family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate caregivers at Regional Hospital of Scranton for all that they did for Albert and his family during this time with them.
